Drawing On Memory
Drawing on Memory is based on a series of conversations between the artist and four interviewees who have had a unique experiences of time. Winston transcribes these texts through carbon paper – adding his own marks to the process – creating large scale portraits of their conversation.
The first conversation focused on an interviewees experience of time whilst serving 15 years inside various maximum-security prisons in the United Kingdom. The second conversation focused on the interviewees experience of time whilst on a 7 year solitary meditation retreat. The third conversation was around the effect dementia and the interviewees experience of time; and the final conversation covered time in the context 13 years of being on the road working in the music and entertainment industry.
