Ini­tial­ly poets were invit­ed to do dark­ness res­i­den­cies [a pro­longed peri­od of time in absolute
dark­ness and silence] and from that expe­ri­ence cre­ate texts that invite read­ers to also explore
lan­guage through sen­so­ry reduction.

300 + pages of draw­ing, asemic writ­ing and prose by Sam Win­ston fol­low­ing a 3 month peri­od in which the artist record­ed a world beyond sight. Asemic writ­ing is a word­less open seman­tic form of
writ­ing and the book shifts between Winston’s leg­i­ble prose into asemic texts.

Win­ston spent hun­dreds of hours cre­at­ing let­ter-forms that moved between coher­ent and abstract ges­tures in an attempt to cap­ture some of the expe­ri­ences that arise through sen­so­ry reduction.
